Rajeev Chandrasekhar inaugurates first Internet Exchange for Uttarakhand

Union Minister, Rajeev Chandrasekhar has inaugurated first virtual Internet Exchange of NIXI in the state of Uttarakhand, hosted at Dehradun.

It will help in enhancing and improving the quality of Internet and Broadband services in Uttarakhand.

Next Internet Exchange in Uttarakhand will be at Nainital District. 

National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI): not-for-profit organization working since 2003 for spreading the internet technology to the citizens of India.

Australian Cricket legend, Alan Davidson, passes away at 92

Australian and New South Wales cricket all-rounder Alan Davidson (92 years) passed away. 

He was the first player to achieve the feat of scoring 100 runs as well as take 10 wickets in a single Test match.

He was the legendary left-arm swing bowler, who played 44 Tests for Australia in which he claimed 186 wickets and scored 1328 runs.

He made his First-Class debut for NSW during the 1949/50 season and his Test debut on the 1953 Ashes tour.

Indian Navy stealth frigate Tushil launched in Kaliningrad, Russia

Seventh Indian Navy frigate of P1135.6 class has been launched at Yantar Shipyard at Kaliningrad in Russia.

It has been formally named as Tushil, a Sanskrit word which means protector shield.

It has been developed under Inter-Governmental Agreement (IGA) between India and Russia in 2016 for the construction of four additional P1135.6 class ships for Indian Navy.

It will be commissioned into Indian Navy in mid-2023 followed by its sister ship by the end of 2023.

इसे औपचारिक रूप से तुशील नाम दिया गया है, जो एक संस्कृत शब्द है जिसका अर्थ है रक्षक ढाल।

इसे भारतीय नौसेना के लिए चार अतिरिक्त P1135.6 श्रेणी के जहाजों के निर्माण के लिए 2016 में भारत और रूस के बीच अंतर-सरकारी समझौते (IGA) के तहत विकसित किया गया है।

Shipping Minister has inaugurated simultaneous launching of five vessels at Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL).

He also inaugurated the launching function of three Floating Border Out-Posts (FBOP) for the Border Security Force and two Fully Electric Autonomous Ferries for ASKO Maritime AS, Norway, which are amongst the world’s first Autonomous Ferries.

New Radars and Vessel Traffic Management System inaugurated

Union Minister for Ports has inaugurated new Radars and Vessel Traffic Management System (VTMS) of Cochin Port Trust.

VTMS commissioned in Cochin Port in 2009 has been upgraded with a state-of-the-art system consisting of 2 new radars, 1 AIS Base station, 3 VHF Radios and associated software and hardware installed at ₹5.8-Cr.

It is an essential tool for enhancing safety of navigation in the port by monitoring and regulating the shipping movements.

केंद्रीय बंदरगाह मंत्री ने कोचीन पोर्ट ट्रस्ट के नए रडार और वेसल ट्रैफिक मैनेजमेंट सिस्टम (VTMS) का उद्घाटन किया।

2009 में कोचीन पोर्ट में कमीशन किए गए वीटीएमएस को 2 नए रडार, 1 एआईएस बेस स्टेशन, 3 वीएचएफ रेडियो और संबंधित सॉफ्टवेयर और हार्डवेयर से युक्त एक अत्याधुनिक प्रणाली के साथ अपग्रेड किया गया है, जो ₹5.8-करोड़ में स्थापित है।

यह नौवहन गतिविधियों की निगरानी और विनियमन द्वारा बंदरगाह में नौवहन की सुरक्षा बढ़ाने के लिए एक आवश्यक उपकरण है।

International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists: 2 Nov

International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists is observed every year on 2 November to prevent all attacks and violence against journalists and media workers. 

Aim: To ensure accountability, bring to justice perpetrators of crimes against journalists and media workers.

The day was recognized by UN General Assembly in December 2013 to mark the death of Ghislaine Dupont and Claude Verlon, two French journalists killed while reporting in Mali.

India sings MoU with World Bank to strengthen health systems in Meghalaya

Government of India and Meghalaya have signed USD 40 million with World Bank to strengthen health project agreement for the state of Meghalaya.

Meghalaya Health Systems Strengthening Project will improve the quality of health services in the state and strengthen the management and governance capabilities of the state to handle future health emergencies including COVID-19. 

It will also benefit health sector staff at primary and secondary levels.

‘Vax’ selected as Oxford English Dictionary’s 2021 Word of the Year

‘Vax’ has been chosen as the word of the year by Oxford English Dictionary (OED) in 2021.

Vax is derived from the Latin word vacca, which means cow.

It is used as a short form for vaccine and means a substance put into a person’s body to prevent them from getting a disease.

Due to the Covid-19, words related to vaccines saw surge in 2021, including terms like double-vaxxed, unvaxxed and anti-vaxxer.

It was used 72 times as much as it was in 2020.

New Zealand names critically endangered long-tailed bat as Bird of the Year

Critically endangered New Zealand long-tailed bat has been named as the New Zealand Bird of the Year 2021. 

This long-tailed bat is the only land mammal of New Zealand and can fly at around 60 kms per hour. 

It is also known as the long-tailed wattled bat or pekapeka-tou-roa. 

Bird of the Year competition is organized annually by New Zealand based independent organisation Forest & Bird to raise awareness among the citizens about the native birds of the country.

Bhasha Sangam: It is an initiative of Ministry of Education under Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat to teach basic sentences of everyday usage in 22 Indian languages. 

Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat Quiz game: It is targeted towards children, youngsters for helping them learn more about different regions, states, culture, etc.

GoI form empowered group to review implementation of PM GatiShakti

The 5th edition of 3 day-long virtual Ganga Utsav 2021 - The River Festival has been organized from 1st to 3rd November 2021.

According to the Investment Bank Goldman Sachs, India is poised to become the world’s second-largest economy by 2075.

As per the report, India would cross Japan, Germany, and the US With a population of 1.4 billion people.

India’s GDP is estimated to expand remarkably, reaching 52.5 trillion dollars surpassing the US GDP projection.

The labour force participation set to make India the second-largest economy in the world by 2075.

L&T and Spain's Navantia sign agreement for submarine project

L&T has signed a teaming agreement with Spanish-based Navantia for the submission of a techno-commercial bid for the Indian Navy’s prestigious P75 (India) submarine program.

P75 (India) Submarine Project is expected to be valued at €4.8 billion.

Navantia would carry out the design of P75(I) submarines based on its S80 class of submarines.

The first S80 class submarine was launched in 2021 and is undergoing sea trials prior to its delivery to Spanish Navy.

P75 (भारत) पनडुब्बी परियोजना का मूल्य €4.8 बिलियन होने की उम्मीद है।

नवंतिया अपनी S80 श्रेणी की पनडुब्बियों के आधार पर P75(I) पनडुब्बियों का डिज़ाइन तैयार करेगी।

पहली S80 श्रेणी की पनडुब्बी 2021 में लॉन्च की गई थी और स्पेनिश नौसेना को इसकी डिलीवरी से पहले समुद्री परीक्षणों से गुजर रही है।

Reason: This is due to its solid demographics, political stability, and proactive regulation. 

Positives for the nation also include the rapidly expanding demography, strong regulatory actions, and a welcoming climate for sovereign investors.

World Population Day 2023: 11 July

World Population Day is observed every year on July 11 in order to raise awareness about global population issues, including population control.

2023 theme: Unleashing the power of gender equality: Uplifting the voices of women and girls to unlock our world’s infinite possibilities. 

It was established by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in 1989, after the day the world approximately reached a population of five billion, which was observed on 11 July 1987.

जनसंख्या नियंत्रण सहित वैश्विक जनसंख्या मुद्दों के बारे में जागरूकता बढ़ाने के लिए हर साल 11 जुलाई को विश्व जनसंख्या दिवस मनाया जाता है।

2023 की थीम: लैंगिक समानता की शक्ति को उजागर करना: हमारी दुनिया की अनंत संभावनाओं को अनलॉक करने के लिए महिलाओं और लड़कियों की आवाज़ को ऊपर उठाना।

इसकी स्थापना 1989 में संयुक्त राष्ट्र विकास कार्यक्रम (यूएनडीपी) द्वारा की गई थी, उस दिन के बाद जब दुनिया की आबादी लगभग पांच अरब हो गई थी, जो 11 जुलाई 1987 को मनाया गया था।

MoHUA conducts SBM-U 2.0 Planning & Implementation Review-cum-Workshop

The Housing Ministry organized a review-cum-workshop to evaluate and accelerate the planning and implementation of the SBM-Urban 2.0.

PM Modi launched the 2.0 versions of SBM-U and AMRUT on October 1, 2021.

SBM-U 2.0: Achieving 100% waste segregation in all households and premises and 100% door-to-door collection of segregated waste from each. 

AMRUT 2.0: To provide complete coverage of water supply to all households and sewerage and septage in 500 AMRUT cities.

AMRUT 2.0: 500 AMRUT शहरों में सभी घरों में जल आपूर्ति और सीवरेज और सेप्टेज की पूर्ण कवरेज प्रदान करना।

Gujarat CM launches pilot project of ‘Antyodaya Shramik Suraksha Yojana’

Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel launched the Antyodaya Shram Suraksha Accident Insurance Scheme from Kheda

All those registered under the e-Shram portal from Nadiad will benefit from the scheme.

It is being implemented through the Indian Postal Department, the IPPB, and the Ministry of Labour and Employment.

Under this scheme, insurance with a premium of Rs. 289 and Rs. 499 per year will be a big support to workers in the event of death or partial disability.

नडियाद से ई-श्रम पोर्टल के तहत पंजीकृत सभी लोगों को योजना से लाभ होगा।

इसे भारतीय डाक विभाग, आईपीपीबी और श्रम एवं रोजगार मंत्रालय के माध्यम से कार्यान्वित किया जा रहा है।

इस योजना के तहत 100 रुपये के प्रीमियम पर बीमा मिलता है. 289 और रु. मृत्यु या आंशिक विकलांगता की स्थिति में प्रति वर्ष 499 रुपये श्रमिकों के लिए एक बड़ा समर्थन होगा।

OCA elects Sheikh Talal as the new President

Kuwait’s Sheikh Talal Fahad Al Ahmad Al Sabah has been elected as the new President of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA).

He replaced his older brother Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah, who led the OCA for 30 years until 2021.

The OCA was founded in 1982 by his father Fahad Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, who led it until 1990.

The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) is a governing body of sports in Asia, currently with 45 member National Olympic Committees.

उन्होंने अपने बड़े भाई शेख अहमद अल-फहद अल-सबा का स्थान लिया, जिन्होंने 2021 तक 30 वर्षों तक ओसीए का नेतृत्व किया।
