Karnataka tops the Grid Interactive Renewable Power Capacity list

According to the seventh edition of RBI statistical publication titled ‘Handbook of Statistics on Indian States 2021-22’, Karnataka has topped the total installed capacity of grid-interactive renewable power of all the states of the country.

The state had a total installed capacity of 15,463 megawatts (mw).

TN (15,225 mw) placed second, followed by Gujarat (13,153 mw),  Maharashtra (10,267 mw).

In this edition, two new sections health and environment are introduced.

भारतीय स्टेट्स 2021-22 पर सांख्यिकी की हैंडबुक शीर्षक वाले आरबीआई के सांख्यिकीय प्रकाशन के सातवें संस्करण के अनुसार, कर्नाटक ने देश के सभी राज्यों की ग्रिड-इंटरैक्टिव अक्षय ऊर्जा की कुल स्थापित क्षमता में शीर्ष स्थान हासिल किया है।

राज्य की कुल स्थापित क्षमता 15,463 मेगावाट (मेगावाट) थी।

तमिलनाडु (15,225 मेगावाट) दूसरे स्थान पर, उसके बाद गुजरात (13,153 मेगावाट), महाराष्ट्र (10,267 मेगावाट) का स्थान है।

Franca Ma-ih Sulem Yong gets UNESCO Madanjeet Singh Prize for 2022

The 2022 Edition of UNESCO-Madanjeet Singh Prize has been given to Franca Ma-ih Sulem Yong from Cameroon.

She is a President of the NGOs #Afrogiveness and Positive Youths Africa.

Reason: For the Promotion of Tolerance and Non-Violence.

The Prize is named after its benefactor, former Indian artist, writer and diplomat Madanjeet Singh (1924-2013) who was also a UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador.

This award is awarded every two years to individuals.

Prize money: US$ 100,000

फ्रांका मा-एह सुलेम योंग को 2022 के लिए यूनेस्को मदनजीत सिंह पुरस्कार मिला

यूनेस्को-मदनजीत सिंह पुरस्कार के 2022 संस्करण को कैमरून के फ्रांका मा-इह सुलेम योंग को दिया गया है।

वह गैर-सरकारी संगठनों #Afrogiveness और सकारात्मक युवा अफ्रीका की अध्यक्ष हैं।

कारण: सहिष्णुता और अहिंसा को बढ़ावा देने के लिए।

पुरस्कार का नाम इसके संरक्षक, पूर्व भारतीय कलाकार, लेखक और राजनयिक मदनजीत सिंह (1924-2013) के नाम पर रखा गया है, जो यूनेस्को सद्भावना राजदूत भी थे।

14th Dalai Lama receives 2022 Gandhi Mandela Award

The 14th Dalai Lama was conferred the Gandhi Mandela Award 2022 at Thekchen Choeling McleodGanj, in Dharamshala.

The award was presented by Himachal Pradesh governor, Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar.

The Tibetan spiritual leader is the recipient of the 1989 Nobel Peace Prize.

Gandhi Mandela Award:

It has constituted an international prize, the Gandhi Mandela Award.

The foundation instituted the award on the 150th birth anniversary of MK Gandhi.

Sarbananda Sonowal launches Centre of Excellence for Green Port & Shipping

Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal has launched the India’s first National Centre of Excellence for Green Port & Shipping (NCoEGPS).

The announcement was made by minister at the recently concluded “INMARCO 2022” in Mumbai.

Aim: To develop a regulatory framework and alternate technology adoption road map for Green Shipping to foster carbon neutrality and circular economy (CE) in shipping sector in India.

21st World Congress of Accountants held in Mumbai

ICAI has hosted the 21st World Congress of Accountants 2022 from November 18-21, 2022 at Jio World Centre, Mumbai, Maharashtra.

Goldman Sachs reduces India's GDP growth to 5.9% in 2023

As per the Goldman Sachs, the economic growth forecast of India has been reduced to 5.9% in 2023, from an estimated 6.9% growth in 2022.

Reason: As the boost from the post-COVID reopening fades and monetary tightening weighs on domestic demand.

Goldman Sachs has also expected that inflation will drop to 6.1% in 2023, from 6.8% in 2022.

Recently, RBI has also pegged the domestic growth rate at 7% for 2022-23.

गोल्डमैन सैक्स ने 2023 में भारत की जीडीपी वृद्धि को घटाकर 5.9% कर दिया

गोल्डमैन सैक्स के अनुसार, 2023 में भारत की आर्थिक वृद्धि का अनुमान 2022 में अनुमानित 6.9% की वृद्धि से घटाकर 5.9% कर दिया गया है।

कारण: जैसा कि COVID के बाद से फिर से शुरू होने से बढ़ावा मिलता है और घरेलू मांग पर मौद्रिक सख्ती का असर पड़ता है।

Rasna’s founder Areez Khambatta passes away

Founder and chairman of Rasna group, Areez Khambatta has been passed away at the age of 85 due to cardiac arrest in Ahmedabad.

Khambatta had established the popular orange-flavoured beverage brand in 1976.

He was awarded the President of India’s Home Guard and Civil Defence Medal, as well as the Paschimi Star, Samarseva, and Sangram Medals.

He was honoured with the National Citizen’s Award for his outstanding contribution in the field of commerce.

रसना समूह के संस्थापक और अध्यक्ष, आरेज़ खंबाटा का 85 वर्ष की आयु में अहमदाबाद में हृदय गति रुकने के कारण निधन हो गया।

India's Jindal wins Botswana coal-fired power plant project

India's steel, mining, and infrastructure company, Jindal Steel and Power (JSPL) has won the tender to build a 300-megawatt (MW) coal-fired power plant in Botswana.

It is the only fossil fuel-based power plant the Southern African country plans to procure in the next 20 years.

Under the project, Jindal will finance the plant and recouping its investments from selling electricity to the Botswana Power Corporation (BPC).

भारत के जिंदल ने बोत्सवाना कोयला आधारित बिजली संयंत्र परियोजना जीती

UN climate summit adopts 'loss and damage' fund

The UN's COP27 climate summit has approved the creation of a special fund, "loss and damage fund".

Reason: To cover the damages suffered by vulnerable nations battered by the impacts of global warming.

The expected monetary compensation from the L&D fund is estimated to be nearly $500 billion and rising by $200 billion annually.

The committee will provide recommendations on few subjects at the COP28, which is set to be held in UAE in 2023.

Crisil cuts FY23 GDP growth forecast to 7%

Rating agency, Crisil has reduced the India growth forecast for the current fiscal from 7.3% to 7%.

Reason: The slowdown in global growth and its impact on India’s exports and industrial activity.

As per the Crisil, the growth of country’s gross domestic product (GDP) will slow considerably to 6% (FY24) from 6.5%.

The revised forecast for the current fiscal includes Q2GDP growth expectation of 6.5% against 13.5% in Q1, and just 4.5% GDP expansion in the second half.

क्रिसिल ने वित्त वर्ष 23 की जीडीपी वृद्धि का अनुमान घटाकर 7% किया

रेटिंग एजेंसी, क्रिसिल ने चालू वित्त वर्ष के लिए भारत के विकास के अनुमान को 7.3% से घटाकर 7% कर दिया है।

चालू वित्त वर्ष के लिए संशोधित पूर्वानुमान में Q1 में 13.5% के मुकाबले 6.5% की Q2GDP वृद्धि की उम्मीद, और दूसरी छमाही में सिर्फ 4.5% GDP विस्तार शामिल है।

India, EU sign pact on climate, quantum tech

India and EU have signed a pact for cooperation in high-performance computing in areas of bio-molecular medicines, Covid therapeutics, mitigating climate change and predicting natural disasters.

The agreement was signed by Alkesh Kumar Sharma (MeitY secretary) and Roberto Viola (DG, Directorate General of Communication, Networks, Content and Technology).

It allows the two sides to explore the frontiers of quantum technologies jointly.

Various actions included ion of troops, offensive ground actions involving comprehensive coordination incorporating contemporary technologies in a multi domain environment.

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev wins Presidential election of Kazakhstan

President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev (69) has secured a second term in snap presidential election after winning 81.31% of the vote.

He came to power in 2019, before that, he has served as acting president after the resignation of president, Nursultan Nazarbayev.

During his tenure, he had changed the name of capital from Nur-Sultan (2019) back to Astana.

He has also approved a constitutional amendment to increase the presidential term from five years to seven.

कजाकिस्तान के राष्ट्रपति, कासिम-जोमार्ट टोकायव (69) ने 81.31% वोट हासिल करने के बाद स्नैप राष्ट्रपति चुनाव में दूसरा कार्यकाल हासिल कर लिया है।

वह 2019 में सत्ता में आए, इससे पहले, उन्होंने राष्ट्रपति, नूरसुल्तान नज़रबायेव के इस्तीफे के बाद कार्यवाहक राष्ट्रपति के रूप में कार्य किया था।

India-US launched ‘Operation Broader Sword’

India and the USA, jointly conducted an ‘Operation Broader Sword’ to stop the illegal shipment of drugs through the International Mail System.

It targeted shipments of illicit, potentially dangerous, unapproved prescription drugs, combination medical devices, and synthetic drug precursors shipped through International Mail Facilities.

The operation resulted in the interception of over 500 shipments of illicit and unapproved prescription drugs bound for US consumers.

भारत-अमेरिका ने शुरू किया 'ऑपरेशन ब्रॉडर स्वॉर्ड'

The National Law University (NLU), Delhi launched Eklavya, a ‘Research Affiliate’ program, for those who do not have a traditional law degree.

Aim: To emphasize its commitment to actively seek partnerships outside the varsity and draw from their experiences and perspectives to develop quality legal scholarship. 

It is open to those who have at least three years of demonstrable experience working on issues that have a significant interface with the law.

CarTrade Tech to acquire OLX India's auto business for Rs 537 cr

Mumbai-based used cars platform CarTrade Tech Ltd will acquire online marketplace OLX India's auto sales business for Rs 537 crore.

CarTrade will acquire a 100% stake in Sobek Auto India Pvt Ltd, the entity that houses OLX India’s Automotive business, in an all-cash deal.

The acquisition will likely to be completed in 21-30 days.

Sobek is a company incorporated under the Companies Act, of 2013.

It is engaged in the business of running an automotive digital platform.

CarTrade Tech 537 करोड़ रुपये में OLX इंडिया के ऑटो कारोबार का अधिग्रहण करेगी

OCA elects Sheikh Talal as the new President

Kuwait’s Sheikh Talal Fahad Al Ahmad Al Sabah has been elected as the new President of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA).

He replaced his older brother Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah, who led the OCA for 30 years until 2021.

The OCA was founded in 1982 by his father Fahad Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, who led it until 1990.

The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) is a governing body of sports in Asia, currently with 45 member National Olympic Committees.

Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel launched the Antyodaya Shram Suraksha Accident Insurance Scheme from Kheda

All those registered under the e-Shram portal from Nadiad will benefit from the scheme.

It is being implemented through the Indian Postal Department, the IPPB, and the Ministry of Labour and Employment.

Under this scheme, insurance with a premium of Rs. 289 and Rs. 499 per year will be a big support to workers in the event of death or partial disability.

इसे भारतीय डाक विभाग, आईपीपीबी और श्रम एवं रोजगार मंत्रालय के माध्यम से कार्यान्वित किया जा रहा है।

इस योजना के तहत 100 रुपये के प्रीमियम पर बीमा मिलता है. 289 और रु. मृत्यु या आंशिक विकलांगता की स्थिति में प्रति वर्ष 499 रुपये श्रमिकों के लिए एक बड़ा समर्थन होगा।

MoHUA conducts SBM-U 2.0 Planning & Implementation Review-cum-Workshop

The Housing Ministry organized a review-cum-workshop to evaluate and accelerate the planning and implementation of the SBM-Urban 2.0.

PM Modi launched the 2.0 versions of SBM-U and AMRUT on October 1, 2021.

SBM-U 2.0: Achieving 100% waste segregation in all households and premises and 100% door-to-door collection of segregated waste from each. 

AMRUT 2.0: To provide complete coverage of water supply to all households and sewerage and septage in 500 AMRUT cities.

World Population Day is observed every year on July 11 in order to raise awareness about global population issues, including population control.

2023 theme: Unleashing the power of gender equality: Uplifting the voices of women and girls to unlock our world’s infinite possibilities. 

It was established by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in 1989, after the day the world approximately reached a population of five billion, which was observed on 11 July 1987.

India overtakes China as most attractive emerging market for investing

According to a study by Invesco Global Sovereign Asset Management, India has overtaken China to become the most attractive emerging market for investing in sovereign wealth funds this year.

Reason: This is due to its solid demographics, political stability, and proactive regulation. 

Positives for the nation also include the rapidly expanding demography, strong regulatory actions, and a welcoming climate for sovereign investors.

L&T and Spain's Navantia sign agreement for submarine project

L&T has signed a teaming agreement with Spanish-based Navantia for the submission of a techno-commercial bid for the Indian Navy’s prestigious P75 (India) submarine program.

P75 (India) Submarine Project is expected to be valued at €4.8 billion.

Navantia would carry out the design of P75(I) submarines based on its S80 class of submarines.

The first S80 class submarine was launched in 2021 and is undergoing sea trials prior to its delivery to Spanish Navy. 

एलएंडटी और स्पेन की नवान्टिया ने पनडुब्बी परियोजना के लिए समझौते पर हस्ताक्षर किये

एलएंडटी ने भारतीय नौसेना के प्रतिष्ठित P75 (भारत) पनडुब्बी कार्यक्रम के लिए तकनीकी-वाणिज्यिक बोली प्रस्तुत करने के लिए स्पेनिश-आधारित नवंतिया के साथ एक टीमिंग समझौते पर हस्ताक्षर किए हैं।

P75 (भारत) पनडुब्बी परियोजना का मूल्य €4.8 बिलियन होने की उम्मीद है।

नवंतिया अपनी S80 श्रेणी की पनडुब्बियों के आधार पर P75(I) पनडुब्बियों का डिज़ाइन तैयार करेगी।

पहली S80 श्रेणी की पनडुब्बी 2021 में लॉन्च की गई थी और स्पेनिश नौसेना को इसकी डिलीवरी से पहले समुद्री परीक्षणों से गुजर रही है।
