World Intellectual Property Day 2023: 26th April

The world commemorates World Intellectual Property Day on April 26 for promoting awareness of intellectual property and its safeguarding.

The theme for the 2023 celebration of World Intellectual Property Day is "Women and IP: Accelerating Innovation and Creativity".

This day was initially proposed during the 33rd Assembly Session of the WIPO Member States in September 1988, and it was officially established on August 9th, 1999.

सितंबर 1988 में डब्ल्यूआईपीओ सदस्य राज्यों के 33वें विधानसभा सत्र के दौरान इस दिन को शुरू में प्रस्तावित किया गया था, और इसे आधिकारिक तौर पर 9 अगस्त, 1999 को स्थापित किया गया था।

RINL wins Ispat Rajbhasha Samman for 2021-22

Rashtriya Ispat Nigam (RINL) has bagged Steel Ministry’s "Ispat Rajbhasha Samman" for the year 2021-22.

The award was presented by the MoS for Steel and Rural Development Faggan Singh Kulaste to CMD, RINL Atul Bhatt, in the meeting of Hindi Salahkar Samiti held at Srinagar.

The minister also released RINL's March issue of Hindi In-house Magazine "Rashtriya Ispat Sugandh".

The members of Hindi Salahkar Samiti appreciated various activities being undertaken by RINL.

मंत्री ने आरआईएनएल की हिंदी इन-हाउस पत्रिका "राष्ट्रीय इस्पात सुगंध" का मार्च अंक भी जारी किया।

हिंदी सलाहकार समिति के सदस्यों ने आर आई एन एल द्वारा की जा रही विभिन्न गतिविधियों की सराहना की।

Centre inks MoU with Art of Living as part of Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan

The Department of Social Justice and Empowerment has signed an MoU with Art of Living as part of its Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan.

The signing ceremony was held at Dr. Ambedkar International Centre in New Delhi.

This campaign will get a boost towards achieving a drug-sensitized India.

The Ministry of   Social  Justice and     Empowerment (MoSJE) has been implementing the National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction (NAPDDR) to curb the menace of drug demand.

Veteran Malayalam actor Mamukkoya passes away

Veteran Malayalam actor-comedian Mamukkoya passed away at 77 due to cardiac arrest.

He started his acting career by doing theatre in 1979, then he went on to become an actor by doing comic roles and was popular for playing characters that spoke Malabar accent.

He acted in around 500 films, including comedies like Sandesam, Nadodikkattu, Innathe Chintha Vishayam, and Varavelpu.

He won several awards and honours for his various roles during his extensive career.

वयोवृद्ध मलयालम अभिनेता-हास्य अभिनेता मामुकोया का 77 वर्ष की आयु में हृदय गति रुकने से निधन हो गया।

Reliance General to accept CBDC e-Rupee through Yes Bank

Reliance General Insurance has become India's first general insurance company to accept the RBI's Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) e-Rupee for premium payments.

Aim: To provide customers with an easy, safe, instant, and green payment solution. 

The company has partnered with Yes Bank to enable premium collection.

Customers with an active e-wallet with any bank can scan Reliance General Insurance's e-Rupee QR code to make immediate payments.

Dalai Lama received 1959 Ramon Magsaysay Award in person after 64 years

The Tibetan spiritual leader, Dalai Lama has received the 1959 Ramon Magsaysay Award by members of the award foundation personally after 64 years.

It was the first international award given for his Community Leadership in recognition of his leadership of the Tibetan community's gallant struggle in defense of the sacred religion that is the inspiration of their life and culture.

The Ramon Magsaysay Award is often called the Nobel Prize of Asia.

US President, South Korean President secured a landmark deal

US President Joe Biden and South Korean President Yoon Suk-Yeol have secured a landmark deal.

It includes plans to periodically deploy US nuclear-armed submarines in South Korea.

This deal will be known as the Washington Declaration and strengthen the allies' cooperation in deterring a North Korean attack.

The declaration comes amid rising concerns about nuclear threats from North Korea as the country carries out a record number of ballistic missile tests.

International Girls in ICT Day is celebrated annually on the fourth Thursday of April to encourage and empower girls and young women to explore and pursue careers in the field of Information and Communication Technology (ICT).

In 2023, it is being observed on April 27.

2023 theme: Digital Skills for Life. 

It raised awareness about the gender gap in the tech industry and inspires women to consider careers in ICT.

This day was declared by ITU on April 8, 2011.

NITI Aayog released report titled Promoting Millets in Diets

NITI Aayog has released a report titled Promoting Millets in Diets: Best Practices across States and Union Territories of India.

The report was released by NITI Aayog Vice Chairman Suman K. Bery.

Report's theme:

State Missions and initiatives to promote millets;

Inclusion of millets in ICDS;

Research and development and use of technology for innovative practices. 

It will serve as a guiding repository to revive and mainstream millets in our diets.

Cabinet approves National Medical Devices Policy, 2023

The Union government has approved the National Medical Devices Policy, 2023 to reduce India’s heavy import dependence on the medical sector.

It will help the Medical Devices Sector, grow from the present 11 billion USD to 50 billion USD in the next five years.

It also aims to facilitate orderly growth of the medical device sector to meet the public health objectives of access, affordability, and innovation.

The Cabinet has also approved establishing 157 nursing colleges. 

कैबिनेट ने राष्ट्रीय चिकित्सा उपकरण नीति, 2023 को मंजूरी दी

केंद्र सरकार ने चिकित्सा क्षेत्र पर भारत की भारी आयात निर्भरता को कम करने के लिए राष्ट्रीय चिकित्सा उपकरण नीति, 2023 को मंज़ूरी दी है।

यह चिकित्सा उपकरण क्षेत्र को अगले पांच वर्षों में वर्तमान 11 बिलियन अमरीकी डालर से 50 बिलियन अमरीकी डालर तक बढ़ने में मदद करेगा।

इसका उद्देश्य पहुंच, सामर्थ्य और नवाचार के सार्वजनिक स्वास्थ्य उद्देश्यों को पूरा करने के लिए चिकित्सा उपकरण क्षेत्र के व्यवस्थित विकास को सुगम बनाना है।

कैबिनेट ने 157 नर्सिंग कॉलेजों की स्थापना को भी मंजूरी दी है।

Cooperation Minister Amit Shah launched IFFCO's nano DAP

Cooperation Minister, Amit Shah has launched IFFCO's nano liquid Di-ammonium phosphate (DAP) fertilizer for commercial sale at Rs 600 per 500 ml bottle.

Aim: Farmers to use nano urea and DAP extensively to make the country self-reliant and reduce import dependence. 

One bottle (500 ml) of nano-liquid DAP is equivalent to one bag (50kg) of conventional granular DAP, which is currently being sold at Rs 1,350.

In 2021, IFFCO launched the world's first nano urea fertilizer.

RBI approves reappointment of N Kamakodi as MD and CEO of City Union Bank

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has approved the reappointment of N Kamakodi as Managing Director and CEO of City Union Bank.

The tenure of his re-appointment would be for a period of three years with effect from May 1, 2023.

He joined the bank as deputy general manager in 2003 and was elevated to general manager in 2005.

In 2006, he was appointed as executive director.

From May 2011, he was serving the bank as its managing director and chief executive officer.

आरबीआई ने सिटी यूनियन बैंक के एमडी और सीईओ के रूप में एन कामकोदी की पुनर्नियुक्ति को मंजूरी दी

India-US launched ‘Operation Broader Sword’

India and the USA, jointly conducted an ‘Operation Broader Sword’ to stop the illegal shipment of drugs through the International Mail System.

It targeted shipments of illicit, potentially dangerous, unapproved prescription drugs, combination medical devices, and synthetic drug precursors shipped through International Mail Facilities.

The operation resulted in the interception of over 500 shipments of illicit and unapproved prescription drugs bound for US consumers.

भारत-अमेरिका ने शुरू किया 'ऑपरेशन ब्रॉडर स्वॉर्ड'

NLU Delhi launches research affiliate program ‘Eklavya’

The National Law University (NLU), Delhi launched Eklavya, a ‘Research Affiliate’ program, for those who do not have a traditional law degree.

Aim: To emphasize its commitment to actively seek partnerships outside the varsity and draw from their experiences and perspectives to develop quality legal scholarship. 

It is open to those who have at least three years of demonstrable experience working on issues that have a significant interface with the law.

CarTrade Tech to acquire OLX India's auto business for Rs 537 cr

Mumbai-based used cars platform CarTrade Tech Ltd will acquire online marketplace OLX India's auto sales business for Rs 537 crore.

CarTrade will acquire a 100% stake in Sobek Auto India Pvt Ltd, the entity that houses OLX India’s Automotive business, in an all-cash deal.

The acquisition will likely to be completed in 21-30 days.

Sobek is a company incorporated under the Companies Act, of 2013.

It is engaged in the business of running an automotive digital platform.

CarTrade Tech 537 करोड़ रुपये में OLX इंडिया के ऑटो कारोबार का अधिग्रहण करेगी

OCA elects Sheikh Talal as the new President

Kuwait’s Sheikh Talal Fahad Al Ahmad Al Sabah has been elected as the new President of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA).

He replaced his older brother Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah, who led the OCA for 30 years until 2021.

The OCA was founded in 1982 by his father Fahad Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, who led it until 1990.

The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) is a governing body of sports in Asia, currently with 45 member National Olympic Committees.

Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel launched the Antyodaya Shram Suraksha Accident Insurance Scheme from Kheda

All those registered under the e-Shram portal from Nadiad will benefit from the scheme.

It is being implemented through the Indian Postal Department, the IPPB, and the Ministry of Labour and Employment.

Under this scheme, insurance with a premium of Rs. 289 and Rs. 499 per year will be a big support to workers in the event of death or partial disability.

इसे भारतीय डाक विभाग, आईपीपीबी और श्रम एवं रोजगार मंत्रालय के माध्यम से कार्यान्वित किया जा रहा है।

इस योजना के तहत 100 रुपये के प्रीमियम पर बीमा मिलता है. 289 और रु. मृत्यु या आंशिक विकलांगता की स्थिति में प्रति वर्ष 499 रुपये श्रमिकों के लिए एक बड़ा समर्थन होगा।

MoHUA conducts SBM-U 2.0 Planning & Implementation Review-cum-Workshop

The Housing Ministry organized a review-cum-workshop to evaluate and accelerate the planning and implementation of the SBM-Urban 2.0.

PM Modi launched the 2.0 versions of SBM-U and AMRUT on October 1, 2021.

SBM-U 2.0: Achieving 100% waste segregation in all households and premises and 100% door-to-door collection of segregated waste from each. 

AMRUT 2.0: To provide complete coverage of water supply to all households and sewerage and septage in 500 AMRUT cities.

World Population Day is observed every year on July 11 in order to raise awareness about global population issues, including population control.

2023 theme: Unleashing the power of gender equality: Uplifting the voices of women and girls to unlock our world’s infinite possibilities. 

It was established by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in 1989, after the day the world approximately reached a population of five billion, which was observed on 11 July 1987.

India overtakes China as most attractive emerging market for investing

According to a study by Invesco Global Sovereign Asset Management, India has overtaken China to become the most attractive emerging market for investing in sovereign wealth funds this year.

Reason: This is due to its solid demographics, political stability, and proactive regulation. 

Positives for the nation also include the rapidly expanding demography, strong regulatory actions, and a welcoming climate for sovereign investors.

L&T and Spain's Navantia sign agreement for submarine project

L&T has signed a teaming agreement with Spanish-based Navantia for the submission of a techno-commercial bid for the Indian Navy’s prestigious P75 (India) submarine program.

P75 (India) Submarine Project is expected to be valued at €4.8 billion.

Navantia would carry out the design of P75(I) submarines based on its S80 class of submarines.

The first S80 class submarine was launched in 2021 and is undergoing sea trials prior to its delivery to Spanish Navy. 

एलएंडटी और स्पेन की नवान्टिया ने पनडुब्बी परियोजना के लिए समझौते पर हस्ताक्षर किये

एलएंडटी ने भारतीय नौसेना के प्रतिष्ठित P75 (भारत) पनडुब्बी कार्यक्रम के लिए तकनीकी-वाणिज्यिक बोली प्रस्तुत करने के लिए स्पेनिश-आधारित नवंतिया के साथ एक टीमिंग समझौते पर हस्ताक्षर किए हैं।

P75 (भारत) पनडुब्बी परियोजना का मूल्य €4.8 बिलियन होने की उम्मीद है।

नवंतिया अपनी S80 श्रेणी की पनडुब्बियों के आधार पर P75(I) पनडुब्बियों का डिज़ाइन तैयार करेगी।

पहली S80 श्रेणी की पनडुब्बी 2021 में लॉन्च की गई थी और स्पेनिश नौसेना को इसकी डिलीवरी से पहले समुद्री परीक्षणों से गुजर रही है।
