Niti Aayog released third innovation index

Karnataka, Telangana and Haryana have been ranked as the top three states among major states in Niti Aayog’s third innovation index.

This index examines the innovation capacities and ecosystems at the sub-national level.

Karnataka topped the index for the third year in a row.

States and UTs were divided into 17 Major States, 10 North-East and Hill States, and 9 Union Territories and City States, for effectively comparing their performance.

नीति आयोग ने जारी किया तीसरा इनोवेशन इंडेक्स

नीति आयोग के तीसरे नवाचार सूचकांक में कर्नाटक, तेलंगाना और हरियाणा को प्रमुख राज्यों में शीर्ष तीन राज्यों के रूप में स्थान दिया गया है।

Tamil Nadu tops in Smart City Fund utilisation

Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh have topped the list of the states so far as utilisation of funds under the government’s flagship Smart City Mission.

Tamil Nadu has spent over Rs 3932 crore out of the Rs 4333 crore, Uttar Pradesh has utilised Rs 2699 cr out of Rs 3142 crore, released by the Centre.

On 8 July 2022, the Centre has released Rs 30,751.41 crore for 100 Smart Cities out of which Rs 27,610.34 crore has been utilized.

8 जुलाई 2022 को, केंद्र ने 100 स्मार्ट शहरों के लिए 30,751.41 करोड़ रुपये जारी किए हैं, जिसमें से 27,610.34 करोड़ रुपये का उपयोग किया जा चुका है।

IndusInd Bank approves raising Rs 20,000 crore

IndusInd Bank board has approved a proposal to raise up to Rs 20,000 crore in debt on a private placement basis to fund its business growth.

As on March 31, the capital adequacy ratio of the bank stood at 18.42% (tier-I capital being at 16.80% and tier-II capital at 1.62%) as percentage of its risk-weighted assets.

The fund-raising plan is subject to the approval of its shareholders.

Noted scientist and director ILS, Ajay Parida passes away

Noted scientist and director of the Institute of Life Sciences (ILS), Bhubaneswar, Dr Ajay Kumar Parida has passed away at 58.

He was awarded the Padma Shri Award by the President of India in 2014 for his outstanding contribution in the field of Science and Engineering.

He had also served as an Executive Director in M. S. Swaminathan Research Foundation.

His researches are mainly focused on developing climate resilient crop varieties with abiotic stress tolerance.

Assam government launches ‘Swanirbhar Naari’ to empower weavers

CM of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma has launched a scheme named ‘Swanirbhar Naari’, to empower indigenous weavers.

Under the scheme, the state government will procure handloom items directly from the indigenous weavers via a web portal.

Government has also urged the Handloom & Textiles department to promote Assamese gamosa (traditional scarf or towel), which is a unique handloom product, across the country.

RBI hikes capital adequacy ratio for urban cooperative banks to 12%

The RBI has increased the minimum capital adequacy ratio (CAR) for Urban Cooperative Banks (UCBs) to 12% from 9% (with deposits above Rs 100 crore).

It has provided a path till March 2026 to meet revised CAR norm in phases for UCBs that don't meet it currently.

This is based on recommendations of a panel headed by N S Viswanathan (former Deputy Governor).

It has retained the norm of a minimum CAR of 9% for tier-1 banks (deposits up to Rs 100 crore).

India, Namibia sign MoU to bring cheetah to India

India and Namibia have signed an MoU on wildlife conservation and sustainable biodiversity utilization for reintroducing the cheetah in India.

The MoU was signed between Bhupender Yadav (Union Environment Minister) and Netumbo Nandi Ndaitwah (Namibia Deputy PM and Foreign Minister).

Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh will receive the first tranche of eight cheetahs by August 15, 2022.

The species of cheetahs in India was officially declared extinct in 1952.

The Indian men’s 25m rapid fire pistol team of Anish Bhanwala, Vijayveer Sidhu and Sameer clinched the silver medal at ISSF World Cup Changwon 2022 in South Korea.

With this medal, India retained the top spot on the medals table with five gold, six silver and four bronze.

Ranil Wickremesinghe sworn-in as President of Sri Lanka

Ranil Wickremesinghe took oath as the eighth president of Sri Lanka at the parliament premises before Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya.

Wickremesinghe has secured 134 votes in the 225-member House while his rival Dullas Alahapperuma got 82.

He had took over as the Acting President after ex-President Gotabaya Rajapksa fled the country.

Wickremesinghe will complete the tenure of Rajapaksa’s term, which ends in November 2024.

India-US launched ‘Operation Broader Sword’

India and the USA, jointly conducted an ‘Operation Broader Sword’ to stop the illegal shipment of drugs through the International Mail System.

It targeted shipments of illicit, potentially dangerous, unapproved prescription drugs, combination medical devices, and synthetic drug precursors shipped through International Mail Facilities.

The operation resulted in the interception of over 500 shipments of illicit and unapproved prescription drugs bound for US consumers.

CarTrade Tech to acquire OLX India's auto business for Rs 537 cr

Mumbai-based used cars platform CarTrade Tech Ltd will acquire online marketplace OLX India's auto sales business for Rs 537 crore.

CarTrade will acquire a 100% stake in Sobek Auto India Pvt Ltd, the entity that houses OLX India’s Automotive business, in an all-cash deal.

The acquisition will likely to be completed in 21-30 days.

Sobek is a company incorporated under the Companies Act, of 2013.

It is engaged in the business of running an automotive digital platform.

OCA elects Sheikh Talal as the new President

Kuwait’s Sheikh Talal Fahad Al Ahmad Al Sabah has been elected as the new President of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA).

He replaced his older brother Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah, who led the OCA for 30 years until 2021.

The OCA was founded in 1982 by his father Fahad Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, who led it until 1990.

The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) is a governing body of sports in Asia, currently with 45 member National Olympic Committees.

Gujarat CM launches pilot project of ‘Antyodaya Shramik Suraksha Yojana’

Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel launched the Antyodaya Shram Suraksha Accident Insurance Scheme from Kheda

All those registered under the e-Shram portal from Nadiad will benefit from the scheme.

It is being implemented through the Indian Postal Department, the IPPB, and the Ministry of Labour and Employment.

Under this scheme, insurance with a premium of Rs. 289 and Rs. 499 per year will be a big support to workers in the event of death or partial disability.

इसे भारतीय डाक विभाग, आईपीपीबी और श्रम एवं रोजगार मंत्रालय के माध्यम से कार्यान्वित किया जा रहा है।

इस योजना के तहत 100 रुपये के प्रीमियम पर बीमा मिलता है. 289 और रु. मृत्यु या आंशिक विकलांगता की स्थिति में प्रति वर्ष 499 रुपये श्रमिकों के लिए एक बड़ा समर्थन होगा।

MoHUA conducts SBM-U 2.0 Planning & Implementation Review-cum-Workshop

The Housing Ministry organized a review-cum-workshop to evaluate and accelerate the planning and implementation of the SBM-Urban 2.0.

PM Modi launched the 2.0 versions of SBM-U and AMRUT on October 1, 2021.

SBM-U 2.0: Achieving 100% waste segregation in all households and premises and 100% door-to-door collection of segregated waste from each. 

AMRUT 2.0: To provide complete coverage of water supply to all households and sewerage and septage in 500 AMRUT cities.

World Population Day is observed every year on July 11 in order to raise awareness about global population issues, including population control.

2023 theme: Unleashing the power of gender equality: Uplifting the voices of women and girls to unlock our world’s infinite possibilities. 

It was established by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in 1989, after the day the world approximately reached a population of five billion, which was observed on 11 July 1987.

India overtakes China as most attractive emerging market for investing

According to a study by Invesco Global Sovereign Asset Management, India has overtaken China to become the most attractive emerging market for investing in sovereign wealth funds this year.

Reason: This is due to its solid demographics, political stability, and proactive regulation. 

Positives for the nation also include the rapidly expanding demography, strong regulatory actions, and a welcoming climate for sovereign investors.

L&T and Spain's Navantia sign agreement for submarine project

L&T has signed a teaming agreement with Spanish-based Navantia for the submission of a techno-commercial bid for the Indian Navy’s prestigious P75 (India) submarine program.

P75 (India) Submarine Project is expected to be valued at €4.8 billion.

Navantia would carry out the design of P75(I) submarines based on its S80 class of submarines.

The first S80 class submarine was launched in 2021 and is undergoing sea trials prior to its delivery to Spanish Navy. 

एलएंडटी और स्पेन की नवान्टिया ने पनडुब्बी परियोजना के लिए समझौते पर हस्ताक्षर किये

एलएंडटी ने भारतीय नौसेना के प्रतिष्ठित P75 (भारत) पनडुब्बी कार्यक्रम के लिए तकनीकी-वाणिज्यिक बोली प्रस्तुत करने के लिए स्पेनिश-आधारित नवंतिया के साथ एक टीमिंग समझौते पर हस्ताक्षर किए हैं।

P75 (भारत) पनडुब्बी परियोजना का मूल्य €4.8 बिलियन होने की उम्मीद है।

नवंतिया अपनी S80 श्रेणी की पनडुब्बियों के आधार पर P75(I) पनडुब्बियों का डिज़ाइन तैयार करेगी।

पहली S80 श्रेणी की पनडुब्बी 2021 में लॉन्च की गई थी और स्पेनिश नौसेना को इसकी डिलीवरी से पहले समुद्री परीक्षणों से गुजर रही है।
