Arati Prabhakar appointed as the Science Advisor to US President, Joe Biden

US president, Joe Biden has appointed Arati Prabhakar as the head of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy.

She succeeded Eric Lander.

She would be the first woman and the first person of color to serve as science adviser to the President of the United States.

She also served in top roles during the presidential tenures of Bill Clinton and Barack Obama.

During the Clinton administration, she lead the National Institute of Standards and Technology.

The 4th Global Startup Ecosystem Report released

As per the Global Startup Ecosystem Report (GSER), the startup ecosystem in Kerala has been ranked as the best in Asia and fourth in terms of Affordable Talent.

Bengaluru city, has been moved up to number 22 in the ranking.

The report also showed that the Bengaluru’s tech ecosystem value is at $105 billion which is higher than that of Singapore at $89 billion and Tokyo at $62 billion.

Top five: Silicon Valley, followed by New York City, London, Boston, and Beijing.

रिपोर्ट में यह भी दिखाया गया है कि बेंगलुरू के तकनीकी पारिस्थितिकी तंत्र का मूल्य 105 अरब डॉलर है जो सिंगापुर के 89 अरब डॉलर और टोक्यो के 62 अरब डॉलर से अधिक है।

Google announces startup accelerator program for women founders

Google has announced a program for women founders, 'startup accelerator program', which will help them address challenges such as fundraising and hiring.

The first batch of the Google for Startups Accelerator India – Women Founders will enroll up to 20 women-founded co-founded startups in the country, and support them through a three-month program.

The selected Startups will receive support and mentorship around AI/ML, Android, Web, Product Strategy and Growth.

India’s unemployment rate falls to 4.2% in 2020-21

As per the Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) for 2020-21 (July-June), the unemployment rate of India has declined to 4.2%in 2020-21 (July-June).

The survey was released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme.

The labour force participation rate has been raised to 41.6%.

The unemployment rate was 4.8% and the labour force participation rate was 40.1% in 2019-20.

The PLFS provides quarterly updates for urban areas and an annual report for urban and rural areas.

HDFC Bank, 100X.VC sign MoU to collaborate on start-up support

HDFC Bank has signed an MoU with 100X.VC to enhance its engagement with the start-up ecosystem in the country.

The bank has also laid the provision of its comprehensive package of specialised services and facilities customised for start-ups, branded as ‘Smart-Up’.

The bank will also assess start-ups for investment and loan extension opportunities which recommended by 100X.VC.

Eighth Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians held in Egypt

The Eighth Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians has been started in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt to address climate change.

The two-day conference is being jointly organized by the House of Representatives and the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).

Nagaland's first woman elected as Member of Parliament to Rajya Sabha, S. Phangon Konyak is representing India at the Conference.

Adani Transmission gets 'green loan' tag for $700-mn revolving facility

Adani Transmission Limited (ATL) has been tagged as 'green loan' by Sustainalytics for its USD 700 million revolving loan facility.

ATL has also signed an energy compact goals as part of COP26 and the energy compact with the UN in November, 2021.

This revolving facility project is being implemented in Gujarat and Maharashtra.

Sustainalytics, provides analytical environmental, social and governance research, ratings and data to institutional investors and companies.

RBI appointed Anand Mahindra and Venu Srinivasan to RBI Board

The Central Government has nominated Anand Gopal Mahindra (Chairman of Mahindra group), Venu Srinivasan (TVS Motor’s Chairman), Pankaj Ramanbhai Patel (Zydus Lifescience’s Chairman ) and Ravindra Dholakia (IIM Ahmedabad’s ex-faculty) as part-time non-official Directors on the Central Board of RBI.

The appointment will be for a period of four years and effective from June 14.

Renowned critic and linguist Professor Gopi Chand Narang passes away

Eminent Urdu critics, theorists and linguists Professor Gopi Chand Narang has passed away at 91.

He has been honoured with the Padma Bhushan (2004) and Sahitya Akademi Awards (1995).

He was a Professor Emeritus at the University of Delhi and Jamia Millia Islamia.

He incorporated a range of modern theoretical frameworks, including stylistics, structuralism, post-structuralism and Sanskrit poetics.

He was born in Dukki (now in present-day Baluchistan, Pakistan).

प्रसिद्ध आलोचक और भाषाविद् प्रोफेसर गोपी चंद नारंग का निधन

प्रख्यात उर्दू आलोचक, सिद्धांतकार और भाषाविद् प्रोफेसर गोपी चंद नारंग का 91 वर्ष की आयु में निधन हो गया है।

LinkedIn join hands with UN Women to create employment for women

LinkedIn has invested $5,00,000 (₹3.88 crore) in association with UN Women to create employment opportunities for women.

The pilot project will launch in Maharashtra to cultivate the digital, soft and employability skills of 2,000 women.

After the completion of 15-month of the pilot project, the UN Women and LinkedIn will incorporate lessons learned and evaluative feedback.

India successfully tests Short-Range Ballistic Missile Prithvi-II

India has tested Short-Range Ballistic Missile, Prithvi-II from an integrated test range in  Chandipur, Odisha.

This missile system is capable of striking targets with a very high degree of precision.

It is an indigenously developed, surface-to-surface missile.

Range: 250 km and can carry one-ton payload.

It is powered by liquid propulsion twin engines.

Recently, India has also tested the nuclear-capable Agni-4 ballistic missile in Odisha.

India-US launched ‘Operation Broader Sword’

India and the USA, jointly conducted an ‘Operation Broader Sword’ to stop the illegal shipment of drugs through the International Mail System.

It targeted shipments of illicit, potentially dangerous, unapproved prescription drugs, combination medical devices, and synthetic drug precursors shipped through International Mail Facilities.

The operation resulted in the interception of over 500 shipments of illicit and unapproved prescription drugs bound for US consumers.

The National Law University (NLU), Delhi launched Eklavya, a ‘Research Affiliate’ program, for those who do not have a traditional law degree.

Aim: To emphasize its commitment to actively seek partnerships outside the varsity and draw from their experiences and perspectives to develop quality legal scholarship. 

It is open to those who have at least three years of demonstrable experience working on issues that have a significant interface with the law.

CarTrade Tech to acquire OLX India's auto business for Rs 537 cr

Mumbai-based used cars platform CarTrade Tech Ltd will acquire online marketplace OLX India's auto sales business for Rs 537 crore.

CarTrade will acquire a 100% stake in Sobek Auto India Pvt Ltd, the entity that houses OLX India’s Automotive business, in an all-cash deal.

The acquisition will likely to be completed in 21-30 days.

Sobek is a company incorporated under the Companies Act, of 2013.

It is engaged in the business of running an automotive digital platform.

OCA elects Sheikh Talal as the new President

Kuwait’s Sheikh Talal Fahad Al Ahmad Al Sabah has been elected as the new President of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA).

He replaced his older brother Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah, who led the OCA for 30 years until 2021.

The OCA was founded in 1982 by his father Fahad Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, who led it until 1990.

The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) is a governing body of sports in Asia, currently with 45 member National Olympic Committees.

Gujarat CM launches pilot project of ‘Antyodaya Shramik Suraksha Yojana’

Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel launched the Antyodaya Shram Suraksha Accident Insurance Scheme from Kheda

All those registered under the e-Shram portal from Nadiad will benefit from the scheme.

It is being implemented through the Indian Postal Department, the IPPB, and the Ministry of Labour and Employment.

Under this scheme, insurance with a premium of Rs. 289 and Rs. 499 per year will be a big support to workers in the event of death or partial disability.

नडियाद से ई-श्रम पोर्टल के तहत पंजीकृत सभी लोगों को योजना से लाभ होगा।

इसे भारतीय डाक विभाग, आईपीपीबी और श्रम एवं रोजगार मंत्रालय के माध्यम से कार्यान्वित किया जा रहा है।

इस योजना के तहत 100 रुपये के प्रीमियम पर बीमा मिलता है. 289 और रु. मृत्यु या आंशिक विकलांगता की स्थिति में प्रति वर्ष 499 रुपये श्रमिकों के लिए एक बड़ा समर्थन होगा।

PM Modi launched the 2.0 versions of SBM-U and AMRUT on October 1, 2021.

SBM-U 2.0: Achieving 100% waste segregation in all households and premises and 100% door-to-door collection of segregated waste from each. 

AMRUT 2.0: To provide complete coverage of water supply to all households and sewerage and septage in 500 AMRUT cities.

AMRUT 2.0: 500 AMRUT शहरों में सभी घरों में जल आपूर्ति और सीवरेज और सेप्टेज की पूर्ण कवरेज प्रदान करना।

World Population Day is observed every year on July 11 in order to raise awareness about global population issues, including population control.

2023 theme: Unleashing the power of gender equality: Uplifting the voices of women and girls to unlock our world’s infinite possibilities. 

It was established by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in 1989, after the day the world approximately reached a population of five billion, which was observed on 11 July 1987.

जनसंख्या नियंत्रण सहित वैश्विक जनसंख्या मुद्दों के बारे में जागरूकता बढ़ाने के लिए हर साल 11 जुलाई को विश्व जनसंख्या दिवस मनाया जाता है।

2023 की थीम: लैंगिक समानता की शक्ति को उजागर करना: हमारी दुनिया की अनंत संभावनाओं को अनलॉक करने के लिए महिलाओं और लड़कियों की आवाज़ को ऊपर उठाना।

इसकी स्थापना 1989 में संयुक्त राष्ट्र विकास कार्यक्रम (यूएनडीपी) द्वारा की गई थी, उस दिन के बाद जब दुनिया की आबादी लगभग पांच अरब हो गई थी, जो 11 जुलाई 1987 को मनाया गया था।

India overtakes China as most attractive emerging market for investing

According to a study by Invesco Global Sovereign Asset Management, India has overtaken China to become the most attractive emerging market for investing in sovereign wealth funds this year.

Reason: This is due to its solid demographics, political stability, and proactive regulation. 

Positives for the nation also include the rapidly expanding demography, strong regulatory actions, and a welcoming climate for sovereign investors.

भारत निवेश के लिए सबसे आकर्षक उभरते बाजार के रूप में चीन से आगे निकल गया है

इनवेस्को ग्लोबल सॉवरेन एसेट मैनेजमेंट के एक अध्ययन के अनुसार, भारत इस साल सॉवरेन वेल्थ फंड में निवेश के लिए सबसे आकर्षक उभरता बाजार बन गया है।

कारण: यह इसकी ठोस जनसांख्यिकी, राजनीतिक स्थिरता और सक्रिय विनियमन के कारण है।

राष्ट्र के लिए सकारात्मक पहलुओं में तेजी से बढ़ती जनसांख्यिकी, मजबूत नियामक कार्रवाइयां और संप्रभु निवेशकों के लिए स्वागत योग्य माहौल भी शामिल है।

L&T and Spain's Navantia sign agreement for submarine project

L&T has signed a teaming agreement with Spanish-based Navantia for the submission of a techno-commercial bid for the Indian Navy’s prestigious P75 (India) submarine program.

P75 (India) Submarine Project is expected to be valued at €4.8 billion.

Navantia would carry out the design of P75(I) submarines based on its S80 class of submarines.

The first S80 class submarine was launched in 2021 and is undergoing sea trials prior to its delivery to Spanish Navy. 

एलएंडटी और स्पेन की नवान्टिया ने पनडुब्बी परियोजना के लिए समझौते पर हस्ताक्षर किये

एलएंडटी ने भारतीय नौसेना के प्रतिष्ठित P75 (भारत) पनडुब्बी कार्यक्रम के लिए तकनीकी-वाणिज्यिक बोली प्रस्तुत करने के लिए स्पेनिश-आधारित नवंतिया के साथ एक टीमिंग समझौते पर हस्ताक्षर किए हैं।

P75 (भारत) पनडुब्बी परियोजना का मूल्य €4.8 बिलियन होने की उम्मीद है।

नवंतिया अपनी S80 श्रेणी की पनडुब्बियों के आधार पर P75(I) पनडुब्बियों का डिज़ाइन तैयार करेगी।

पहली S80 श्रेणी की पनडुब्बी 2021 में लॉन्च की गई थी और स्पेनिश नौसेना को इसकी डिलीवरी से पहले समुद्री परीक्षणों से गुजर रही है।
