India's Non-basmati rice exports grow by 109% since 2013-14

Export of India's non-basmati rice has witnessed tremendous growth of 109% from USD 2925 million in FY 2013-14 to USD 6115 million in FY 2021-22.

Export of non-basmati rice has registered a growth of 27% in 2021-22.

West African country, Benin is one of the major importers of non-basmati rice from India.

As per Directorate General of Commercial Intelligence and Statistics (DGCIS) data, India exported rice to over 150 countries across the globe in 2021-22.

वाणिज्यिक खुफिया और सांख्यिकी महानिदेशालय (DGCIS) के आंकड़ों के अनुसार, भारत ने 2021-22 में दुनिया भर के 150 से अधिक देशों को चावल का निर्यात किया।

India's first portable solar rooftop system unveiled in Gujarat

The nation's first portable solar rooftop system has been inaugurated at Swaminarayan Akshardham temple complex in Gandhinagar, Gujarat.

The 10 Photovoltaic Port has been manufactured by Servotech Power Systems Ltd (New Delhi).

It is designed by the Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ).

The solar rooftop system has been installed under the initiative of the government to develop renewable energy cities across India.

RBI caps lending limits of NBFCs

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has tightened the rules for non-banking finance companies (NBFCs) relating to their large exposures.

The exposure of NBFCs for the Upper layer: Exposure must not exceed 20% of its capital base at all times, Board can allow an additional 5%.

NBFCs that are into infrastructure Finance can have exposure of 25%, with an option of an additional 5% of Tier I capital to a single counterparty.

Norms will come into effect from October 1, 2022.

Jasleen Kohli appointed as MD and CEO of Digit Insurance

Digit Insurance has appointed Jasleen Kohli as the company's new Managing director (MD) and chief executive officer (CEO) with effect from April 20, 2022.

She succeeds Vijay Kumar who retired from the company on April 19, 2022.

She served as chief distribution officer (CDO) at Digit, where she was responsible for all of the company's sales and distribution channels.

India, Finland to establish Quantum Computing Virtual Network Centre

India has signed an MoU with Finland to establish an Indo-Finnish Virtual Network Centre on Quantum Computing.

Aim: To stimulate innovative research and development projects, demonstrate high industrial relevance, and commercial potential. 

India has identified three premier institutes IIT Madras, IISER Pune, and C-DAC Pune for Virtual Network Centre on Quantum Computing.

Shanti Sethi appointed Kamala Harris's defence advisor

Indian-American Navy veteran Shanti Sethi has been appointed as USA Vice President Kamala Harris's Defence Adviser.

Shanti Sethi is the first Indian-American commander of a major US Navy combat ship.

Shanti Sethi commanded the guided-missile destroyer, USS Decatur, from December 2010 to May 2012.

She joined the Navy in 1993.

Recently, US Senate has confirmed the appointment of Ketanji Brown Jackson(the first Black woman) to Supreme Court Judge.

WPI based inflation increased to 14.55% in March

Wholesale Price Index (WPI) based inflation in India has risen to 14.55% on rising edible oil prices and an increase in power prices.

In February, WPI inflation was 13.11% on the hardening of prices of crude oil and non-food items.

The WPI food index has increased from 8.47% in February to 8.71% in March.

The food index includes food articles from the primary group and food products from the manufactured products group.

मार्च में WPI आधारित मुद्रास्फीति बढ़कर 14.55% हुई

भारत में थोक मूल्य सूचकांक (WPI) आधारित मुद्रास्फीति खाद्य तेल की बढ़ती कीमतों और बिजली की कीमतों में वृद्धि पर बढ़कर 14.55% हो गई है।

फरवरी में कच्चे तेल और गैर-खाद्य पदार्थों की कीमतों के सख्त होने पर WPI मुद्रास्फीति 13.11% थी।

WPI खाद्य सूचकांक फरवरी में 8.47% से बढ़कर मार्च में 8.71% हो गया है।

IMF cut global growth outlook for the year 2022 to 3.6%

The International Monetary Fund(IMF) has reduced the global growth for the calendar year 2022 to 3.6% from 4.4%.

Report: World Economic Outlook report

Reason: Due to commodity price volatility and disruption of supply chains caused by the war.

IMF also cut its forecast for India’s FY23 GDP growth to 8.2% from 9%.

Recently, World Bank also slashed the global growth forecast to 3.2%.

Three Indian wrestlers won bronze medal in Asian Wrestling Championship

Three out of five Greco Roman wrestlers of India have won bronze medals in the Asian Wrestling Championship, Mongolia.

Bronze medal winner: Sunil Kumar (87Kg), Arjun Halakurki (55Kg), Neeraj (63Kg)

Arjun Halakurki has defeated Davaabandi Munkh Erdene by 10-7 points in the bronze play-off.

Neeraj got the better of Uzbekistan's Islomjon Bakhramov 7-4 to win the bronze medal.

However, Sajan Bhanwal (77Kg) and Prem Kumar (130Kg) missed out on a bronze.

IAF successfully test-fires BrahMos missile from Su30-MkI fighter jet

The Indian Air Force(IAF) has successfully conducted a test-fire of the live firing of BrahMos supersonic cruise missile from a Su30- MKI fighter aircraft.

The missile hit a decommissioned Indian Navy ship under close coordination with the Indian Navy.

The BrahMos can be fired from submarines, ships, fighter jets and land.

In 2016, the government decided to integrate the Brahmos into over 40 Sukhoi fighter jets.

According to the Investment Bank Goldman Sachs, India is poised to become the world’s second-largest economy by 2075.

As per the report, India would cross Japan, Germany, and the US With a population of 1.4 billion people.

India’s GDP is estimated to expand remarkably, reaching 52.5 trillion dollars surpassing the US GDP projection.

The labour force participation set to make India the second-largest economy in the world by 2075.

L&T and Spain's Navantia sign agreement for submarine project

L&T has signed a teaming agreement with Spanish-based Navantia for the submission of a techno-commercial bid for the Indian Navy’s prestigious P75 (India) submarine program.

P75 (India) Submarine Project is expected to be valued at €4.8 billion.

Navantia would carry out the design of P75(I) submarines based on its S80 class of submarines.

The first S80 class submarine was launched in 2021 and is undergoing sea trials prior to its delivery to Spanish Navy.

According to a study by Invesco Global Sovereign Asset Management, India has overtaken China to become the most attractive emerging market for investing in sovereign wealth funds this year.

Reason: This is due to its solid demographics, political stability, and proactive regulation. 

Positives for the nation also include the rapidly expanding demography, strong regulatory actions, and a welcoming climate for sovereign investors.

It was established by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in 1989, after the day the world approximately reached a population of five billion, which was observed on 11 July 1987.

Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel launched the Antyodaya Shram Suraksha Accident Insurance Scheme from Kheda

All those registered under the e-Shram portal from Nadiad will benefit from the scheme.

It is being implemented through the Indian Postal Department, the IPPB, and the Ministry of Labour and Employment.

गुजरात के मुख्यमंत्री भूपेन्द्र पटेल ने खेड़ा से अंत्योदय श्रम सुरक्षा दुर्घटना बीमा योजना का शुभारंभ किया

नडियाद से ई-श्रम पोर्टल के तहत पंजीकृत सभी लोगों को योजना से लाभ होगा।

इसे भारतीय डाक विभाग, आईपीपीबी और श्रम एवं रोजगार मंत्रालय के माध्यम से कार्यान्वित किया जा रहा है।

इस योजना के तहत 100 रुपये के प्रीमियम पर बीमा मिलता है. 289 और रु. मृत्यु या आंशिक विकलांगता की स्थिति में प्रति वर्ष 499 रुपये श्रमिकों के लिए एक बड़ा समर्थन होगा।

OCA elects Sheikh Talal as the new President

Kuwait’s Sheikh Talal Fahad Al Ahmad Al Sabah has been elected as the new President of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA).

He replaced his older brother Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah, who led the OCA for 30 years until 2021.

The OCA was founded in 1982 by his father Fahad Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, who led it until 1990.

The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) is a governing body of sports in Asia, currently with 45 member National Olympic Committees.

कुवैत के शेख तलाल फहद अल अहमद अल सबा को एशिया ओलंपिक परिषद (OCA) का नया अध्यक्ष चुना गया है।

उन्होंने अपने बड़े भाई शेख अहमद अल-फहद अल-सबा का स्थान लिया, जिन्होंने 2021 तक 30 वर्षों तक ओसीए का नेतृत्व किया।

OCA की स्थापना 1982 में उनके पिता फहद अल-अहमद अल-जबर अल-सबा ने की थी, जिन्होंने 1990 तक इसका नेतृत्व किया।

एशिया ओलंपिक परिषद (ओसीए) एशिया में खेलों का एक शासी निकाय है, जिसमें वर्तमान में 45 सदस्यीय राष्ट्रीय ओलंपिक समितियाँ हैं।
